Situation
A project manager for a high-profile executive customer advisory board meeting was overseeing the development of 25 critical business narratives that would be subjected to heavy scrutiny by internal senior leadership and key industry partners, ultimately affecting the company’s future offerings roadmap.
Challenge
Once the narratives were drafted by subject matter experts, they needed to be edited and formatted for messaging, consistency, and clarity to ensure that the company’s programs and plans were communicated effectively to give the best possible impression to the advisory board. Because the narratives were receiving multiple rounds of feedback from technical and legal review teams and needed to include the most late-breaking information about the company's offerings, the editing review timeline had to be flexible and allow for tight turnarounds if needed.
Solution
We held a kickoff meeting to determine the top-priority concerns and potential pitfalls that might affect the outcome and then developed an editorial approach to each narrative that addressed those concerns, editing and providing feedback and suggestions accordingly. While an overall timeline was set for editorial review, we kept in contact with the project manager to track late submissions and ensure that we had the right number of editors on hand to accommodate submissions.
Results
We edited each narrative on time and to the exacting standards we’d developed. The meeting ran smoothly and generated quality customer feedback, with compliments to the quality of the documents, and the project manager enthusiastically asked us to return to the project the following year.
